Africa fights vaccine against Covid 19 from US MNC – J&J
Africa receives 220 million vaccine doses from the United States global corporation Johnson & Johnson (J&J) (https://www.jnj.com/). The company has signed a contract to deliver the said vaccine doses, with another batch of 300million doses to South Africa. Over 400 million Covid 19 vaccine doses are going to roll out by 2022. In a release, J&J also added that they will deliver the remaining 180million vaccine doses to Africa by next year.\
The announcement by Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa (President) earlier this week said that he was very happy to have signed the agreement with the authorities at African Vaccine Acquisition Team.
During the President’s visit with Mr. David Mabuza (Deputy President – Aspen Pharmacare (a manufacturing facility at Gqeberha, Eastern Cape) declared the announcement.
In the nationwide Covid 19 vaccination drive, the visit completely focused on the progress of the Covid 19 vaccine doses. This is a result of the fruitful partnership between the government and the private sector player. (Aspen Pharmacare Covid 19 sterile manufacturing plant)
Mr. Ramaphosa expressed his delight with the push that both Mr. Mabuza and Zweli Mkhize (Health Minister – Africa) had coordinated with J&J for vaccine doses across the continent.
The Covid 19 vaccine doses manufactured for the entire country, said Mr. Ramaphosa is from Aspen Pharmacareare the makers of these lifesaving vaccines. The entire nation (South Africa) must be in a position to ensure the manufacturing of this vaccine here itself. Consequently, Mr. Ramaphosa insisted that immediately the rest of the continent also receive Covid 19 vaccine doses to fight the virus.
The company – Aspen Pharmacare would create jobs for people of the Eastern Cape, as a result of the emerging need to create more vaccine doses.
Lastly, President also added his gratefulness of the plant in Eastern Cape creating job opportunities required for South Africa in turn, developing this province to more than a manufacturing unit.
